Scope & Content The Hodevik collection documents Matt Hodeviks life after moving to the United States and making his career as a steam operator. It includes letters of reference from past employers, copies of his operator licenses, and correspondence that includes both letters from and applications to jobs through Minnesota's Civil Service Department.
Admin/Biographical History Matt Hodevik was a Norwegian immigrant from Bergsdorf Norway who came to the United States in the early 1900's. He received his license as a machine operator from a school in Saskatchewan in 1912. He exentually made his way down to Clay County where he worked as a steam and gasoline engine engineer for large farming operations around the county.
