Scope & Content The collection contains primarily images of early Barnesville through postcards as well as Spencer family photos. There is also a small amount of materials relating to Mary Spencer Twedt's time as a student at Barnesville High School, including her High School Memory Book.
Admin/Biographical History Mary Spencer Twedt was born in Barnesville Minnesota in 1901. Her mother died when she was five years old so at an early age she began going to work with her father at his Reo car dealership. At an early age she began driving and teaching car buyers how to operate their cars and chaufering people from the railroad station in town over to resorts around the area. She was married in 1919 to Egil Twedt and moved to Minneapolis in 1932 when she started managing some property that they owned. She also learned to fly and joined the civil air patrol before World War 2. She moved to Mexico in 1950 and started the Pan American Travel Service, owned a screen printing business, and later managed the restaurant Leroq. She spent 29 years in Mexico before she decided to move back to Minneapolis to spend more time with her family.
