Scope & Content The collection contains the negatives of the photographs that were taken by Randolph Holmgren from his time as gate agent in Glyndon Minnesota for the Great Northern Railway. There are also photocopies of each photograph that is represented in the negatives.
Admin/Biographical History Randolph Holmgren started working for Great Northern Railroad at Thief River Falls Minnesota on October 21, 1913 at the age of 15. He started in Glyndon Minnesota as the Depot Agent in 1927 where he stayed until 1942 when he became a traveling freight agent for the Great Northern Railway during WW2. In 1952 he became the depot agent in Thief River Falls and that is where he stayed until his death in 1962. He spent over 51 years with the Great Northern Railway during his lifetime.
