In the late 1970's the authors of “Buildings & People: Guidelines for Historic Preservation, Moorhead MN” performed a study with three parts (paraphrased from the book's prefeace):
1. They reviewed the architetural and socio-cultural influences in Moorhead from 1869 to the present. The periods chosen refelct major events that influenced the community pattern, and the forms and styles of buildings.
2. They looked at Historic Architecture and the influence of architectural styles on Moorhead during its first 50 years.
3. Part three was all about the planning process, guidelines and programs to obtain the objectives of historic preservation. They also address the alternative courses of action with flexibility to accomodate a broad range of approaches and interests in Historic Preservation.
The book was published by the Moorhead Community Development Department in May of 1979, and funded by a community block grant.
