Scope & Content This is a collection of copy prints of photos that belonged to Ellen Hartke of early Muskoda Township in Clay County including photos of the train depot, the elevator, and Zuelsdorf Gravel Pit. Most of the photos include some kind of description written on the back. The Hartke photos are the only photos of Muskoda that are owned by the museum. Some of the prints also include negatives along with them.
Admin/Biographical History Ellen Hartke was born Ellen Hart in Battle Lake to James and Mary Hart. She was a graduate of MSTC and taught at a rural school. She met Carl Hartke in Muskoda, a ghost town that has since been absorbed by Hawley, Minnesota. They were married in Detroit Lakes on March 7th 1942. They farmed in Hawley Minnesota. Her husband died in December of 1983, she passed in November of 1992.
