Scope & Content The collection contains materials that were donated by a past secretary of Viking Heritage group so the records only run through her tenure as secretary from 1981-1984. They contain meeting minutes, correspondence, and treasurer's reports for those years.
Admin/Biographical History The Hawley Area Viking Heritage Organization was started in Hawley in 1981 to help support the preservation of Viking Heritage One of their main concerns at the time of their founding was to support the voyage of the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, built by Robert Asp, from Duluth to Norway in the summer of 1982. They also made a bid after the ship returned to host the Hjemkomst at a museum in Hawley, Minnesota which eventually lost out to the Clay County Historical Society. Other activities included setting up group tours to Norway and putting on an area Norwegian festival.
