The collection contains material relating to the Moorhead Chapter of Toastmaster's International most notably being two histories of the club from 1944-1969 and 1970-1984 that tell who the officers are and gives a one page summary of club activities for that year.
The mission of the Toastmaster's international is to empower people to become better communicators and leaders by teaching them public speaking skills. It was established by Ralph Smedley in 1922 while he was working for the YMCA in Santa Ana California. It has expanded to over 145,000 clubs in 126 countries with a membership of over 313,000 people.
The first Meeting of the Moorhead Toastmaster's Club was held on May 20th 1944 with its charter banquet being held June 16th 1944. Including the club's officers there were 25 charter members of the club. Members of the Moorhead club were also responsible for helping establish the rest of Toastmaster's District 20 helping to establish clubs all over North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota.
