Scope & Content The Jim Nelson collection relates entirely to Hawley, Minnesota. It includes photographs of the flooding that took place in Hawley in 1955, and newspaper clippings on the subject of Hawley High School’s Basketball team’s state tournament run in 1987 when they finished in 2nd place, and an embezzling case that happened at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Hawley in 1929. Another big subject that comes up is fires and the Hawley fire department with copies of articles having to do with various fires around Clay County that were fought with help of the Hawley Fire Department, also of note is an article from 1920 that talks about the department going from volunteer to salary based.
