Scope & Content The entirety of the collection consists of various ledger books that contain the records of the local post offices of Manitoba Junction, Dale, and Winnipeg Junction that span the years 1894 – 1919. The main thing that the records tracks are money orders that were either ordered or drawn from one of the post offices. Also included is a selection of Postmaster’s Account books and a route directory.
Admin/Biographical History Manitoba Junction, Winnipeg Junction, and Dale Minnesota are all former railroad towns that were established around the route of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Winnipeg Junction came first town to disappear when Northern Pacific changed its route. changed residents moved to adjacent towns of Manitoba Junction, and Dale. Dale Minnesota lasted the longest of the three with their post office closing it’s doors in 1971. All three “ghost towns” can be found within Highland Grove Township in Clay County Minnesota, which can be found just north of towns of Hawley and Lake Park Minnesota.
