Scope & Content The collection contains information relating to the activities of the Paddelford Packet Boat Company which operated on Harriet Island in St. Paul, MN. It includes two brochures and Captain Bowell's business card when he acted as president of that organization. Also included are two photocopies of materials Captain Bowell used to research the Anson Northup, the namesake of a Minneapolis steamboat.
Admin/Biographical History Captain William D. Bowell Sr. founded the Paddelford Packet Boat Company in 1969. The Paddelford Company operated out of St. Paul, MN and offered riverboat tours of the Mississippi River from their home base on Harriet Island. Captain Bowell retired in 2001 and passed the company on to his nephew but only after supervising the construction of the University of Minnesota Centennial Showboat. He passed away in April of 2011.
