Scope & Content Contains a collection of transcriptions of letters written by either Lars or Iver Handegaard to family back in Moorhead. They are all transcriptions some of them in the original Norwegian. It also includes a photocopy of a autobiography of Lars Handegaard that he wrote out by hand on an old ledger book.
Admin/Biographical History Lars and Iver Handegaard immigrated to the United States in 1883 and 1884. They settled in Lake Park which is located in Becker County, Minnesota. While they were in the United States they wrote home fairly regularly. Their father saved the letters and they ended up being passed down through the family. They tell a fairly complete story of life in this part of the Midwest between 1883 and 1890 as it was experienced through the lives of these two brothers.
